About SVIYFCA:

South Vancouver Island Youth and Family Counsellor Association (SVIYFCA) is a professional association of school-based Youth and Family Counsellors who since 1981 have provided a strong network of support services to children, youth, and their families in schools south of Duncan on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Who are Youth and Family Counsellors:

We are a group of professional counsellors with Human Service degrees and have extensive experience addressing critical issues that impact healthy development.

Our Association’s mandate is to ensure the delivery of a consistent, high quality service, and to provide professional development and consultation opportunities for our membership. We are governed by a professional code of ethics and standards of practice.

 Supporting children, youth and family development through:

  • family counselling
  • individual and group counselling
  • parent support and education
  • support and advocacy
  • conflict mediation
  • life skills training
  • crisis intervention
  • referrals to community resources
  • strengthening ties with families, schools and communities

Our Commitment:

Youth and Family Counsellors provide counselling and support services to children, youth and their families who are experiencing emotional, behavioural, social, cultural or academic difficulties. Our service goals are to enhance students’ relationships and participation within their family, school and community. We strive to build resiliency and healthy community connections for children, youth and their families.
